He named the place Bethel. (The town there was once known as Luz.)

Jacob came with all his people to Luz, which is now known as Bethel, in the land of Canaan.

“I have set a time for judgment,” says God, “and I will judge with fairness.

“Listen to this, you priests! Pay attention, people of Israel! Listen, you that belong to the royal family! You are supposed to judge with justice—so judgment will fall on you! You have become a trap at Mizpah, a net spread on Mount Tabor,

Do not go to Beersheba to worship. Do not try to find me at Bethel—Bethel will come to nothing. Do not go to Gilgal—her people are doomed to exile.”

While the Israelites were camping at Gilgal on the plain near Jericho, they observed Passover on the evening of the fourteenth day of the month.

The Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have removed from you the disgrace of being slaves in Egypt.” That is why the place was named Gilgal, the name it still has.

He had thirty sons who rode thirty donkeys. They had thirty cities in the land of Gilead, which are still called the villages of Jair.

He had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who rode on seventy donkeys. Abdon led Israel for eight years,

Tell of it, you that ride on white donkeys, sitting on saddles, and you that must walk wherever you go.

Samuel called the people together for a religious gathering at Mizpah

And Samuel said to them, “Let us all go to Gilgal and once more proclaim Saul as our king.”

Then Samuel called for all the Israelites to meet at Mizpah, telling them, “I will pray to the Lord for you there.”
