Good News Translation

If anyone sins against someone else, God can defend the one who is wrong; but who can defend someone who sins against the Lord?” But they would not listen to their father, for the Lord had decided to kill them.

What he did displeased the Lord, and the Lord killed him also.

You do not want sacrifices, or I would offer them; you are not pleased with burnt offerings.

I have sinned against you—only against you— and done what you consider evil. So you are right in judging me; you are justified in condemning me.

Wise children pay attention when their parents correct them, but arrogant people never admit they are wrong.

If you do what is wrong, you will be severely punished; you will die if you do not let yourself be corrected.

If you get more stubborn every time you are corrected, one day you will be crushed and never recover.

the time for killing and the time for healing, the time for tearing down and the time for building.

But any who sin deliberately, whether they are natives or foreigners, are guilty of treating the Lord with contempt, and they shall be put to death,

Show no partiality in your decisions; judge everyone on the same basis, no matter who they are. Do not be afraid of anyone, for the decisions you make come from God. If any case is too difficult for you, bring it to me, and I will decide it.’

“But King Sihon would not let us pass through his country. The Lord your God had made him stubborn and rebellious, so that we could defeat him and take his territory, which we still occupy.

For there is one God, and there is one who brings God and human beings together, the man Christ Jesus,

For there is no longer any sacrifice that will take away sins if we purposely go on sinning after the truth has been made known to us.

Instead, all that is left is to wait in fear for the coming Judgment and the fierce fire which will destroy those who oppose God!

And so he is able, now and always, to save those who come to God through him, because he lives forever to plead with God for them.

The Lord had made them determined to fight the Israelites, so that they would be condemned to total destruction and all be killed without mercy. This was what the Lord had commanded Moses.

So I solemnly declare to the family of Eli that no sacrifice or offering will ever be able to remove the consequences of this terrible sin.”
