This is a prayer of the prophet Habakkuk:

I will still be joyful and glad, because the Lord God is my savior.

He has provided for us a mighty Savior, a descendant of his servant David.

But that is not all; we rejoice because of what God has done through our Lord Jesus Christ, who has now made us God's friends.

It is we, not they, who have received the true circumcision, for we worship God by means of his Spirit and rejoice in our life in union with Christ Jesus. We do not put any trust in external ceremonies.

May you always be joyful in your union with the Lord. I say it again: rejoice!

Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart.

You love him, although you have not seen him, and you believe in him, although you do not now see him. So you rejoice with a great and glorious joy which words cannot express,

Be glad, heaven, because of her destruction! Be glad, God's people and the apostles and prophets! For God has condemned her for what she did to you!

Peninnah, her rival, would torment and humiliate her, because the Lord had kept her childless.

This went on year after year; whenever they went to the house of the Lord, Peninnah would upset Hannah so much that she would cry and refuse to eat anything.
