Good News Translation

Christ himself carried our sins in his body to the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness. It is by his wounds that you have been healed.

The next day John saw Jesus coming to him, and said, “There is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

Then Pilate took Jesus and had him whipped.

Those who fear him and do what is right are acceptable to him, no matter what race they belong to.

We are witnesses of everything that he did in the land of Israel and in Jerusalem. Then they put him to death by nailing him to a cross.

And after they had done everything that the Scriptures say about him, they took him down from the cross and placed him in a tomb.

The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from death, after you had killed him by nailing him to a cross.

In the same way you are to think of yourselves as dead, so far as sin is concerned, but living in fellowship with God through Christ Jesus.

Nor must you surrender any part of yourselves to sin to be used for wicked purposes. Instead, give yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life, and surrender your whole being to him to be used for righteous purposes.

Surely you know that when you surrender yourselves as slaves to obey someone, you are in fact the slaves of the master you obey—either of sin, which results in death, or of obedience, which results in being put right with God.

Certainly not! We have died to sin—how then can we go on living in it?

But now you have been set free from sin and are the slaves of God. Your gain is a life fully dedicated to him, and the result is eternal life.

For when we die, we are set free from the power of sin.

Now, however, we are free from the Law, because we died to that which once held us prisoners. No longer do we serve in the old way of a written law, but in the new way of the Spirit.

I passed on to you what I received, which is of the greatest importance: that Christ died for our sins, as written in the Scriptures;

And so the Lord says, “You must leave them and separate yourselves from them. Have nothing to do with what is unclean, and I will accept you.

But by becoming a curse for us Christ has redeemed us from the curse that the Law brings; for the scripture says, “Anyone who is hanged on a tree is under God's curse.”

for it is the light that brings a rich harvest of every kind of goodness, righteousness, and truth.

Your lives will be filled with the truly good qualities which only Jesus Christ can produce, for the glory and praise of God.

he canceled the unfavorable record of our debts with its binding rules and did away with it completely by nailing it to the cross.

You have died with Christ and are set free from the ruling spirits of the universe. Why, then, do you live as though you belonged to this world? Why do you obey such rules as

For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Because Jesus Christ did what God wanted him to do, we are all purified from sin by the offering that he made of his own body once and for all.

For this reason, when Christ was about to come into the world, he said to God: “You do not want sacrifices and offerings, but you have prepared a body for me.

Keep walking on straight paths, so that the lame foot may not be disabled, but instead be healed.

Jesus, then, is the High Priest that meets our needs. He is holy; he has no fault or sin in him; he has been set apart from sinners and raised above the heavens.

In the same manner Christ also was offered in sacrifice once to take away the sins of many. He will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to save those who are waiting for him.

So then, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you will be healed. The prayer of a good person has a powerful effect.

You know that Christ is righteous; you should know, then, that everyone who does what is right is God's child.

Let no one deceive you, my children! Whoever does what is right is righteous, just as Christ is righteous.
