Good News Translation

“You know that because of the constant wars my father David had to fight against the enemy countries all around him, he could not build a temple for the worship of the Lord his God until the Lord had given him victory over all his enemies.

but you will never build it. It is your son, your own son, who will build my temple.’

But the Lord told me that I had killed too many people and fought too many wars. And so, because of all the bloodshed I have caused, he would not let me build a temple for him.

David stood before them and addressed them: “My friends, listen to me. I wanted to build a permanent home for the Covenant Box, the footstool of the Lord our God. I have made preparations for building a temple to honor him,

but he has forbidden me to do it, because I am a soldier and have shed too much blood.

She saw the food that was served at his table, the living quarters for his officials, the organization of his palace staff and the uniforms they wore, the clothing of the servants who waited on him at feasts, and the sacrifices he offered in the Temple. It left her breathless and amazed.

I regularly fed at my table a hundred and fifty of the Jewish people and their leaders, besides all the people who came to me from the surrounding nations.

Every day I served one beef, six of the best sheep, and many chickens, and every ten days I provided a fresh supply of wine. But I knew what heavy burdens the people had to bear, and so I did not claim the allowance that the governor is entitled to.

The Lord said to my lord, “Sit here at my right side until I put your enemies under your feet.”

You appointed them rulers over everything you made; you placed them over all creation:

On the day when I act, you will overcome the wicked, and they will be like dust under your feet.

For Christ must rule until God defeats all enemies and puts them under his feet.

God put all things under Christ's feet and gave him to the church as supreme Lord over all things.
