Why, then, have you broken your promise and disobeyed my command?

As soon as King Ahaziah's mother Athaliah learned of her son's murder, she gave orders for all the members of the royal family to be killed.

Lord, punish my enemies in that way— those who say such evil things against me!

So they are punished by their own evil and are hurt by their own violence.

The sins of the wicked are a trap. They get caught in the net of their own sin.

The Sovereign Lord says, “As surely as I am the living God, I will punish him for breaking the treaty which he swore in my name to keep.

You will suffer the same punishment as the people! I will punish you and make you pay for the evil you do.

When they heard this, they all left, one by one, the older ones first. Jesus was left alone, with the woman still standing there.

Their conduct shows that what the Law commands is written in their hearts. Their consciences also show that this is true, since their thoughts sometimes accuse them and sometimes defend them.

If our conscience condemns us, we know that God is greater than our conscience and that he knows everything.

When David heard that Nabal had died, he said, “Praise the Lord! He has taken revenge on Nabal for insulting me and has kept me his servant from doing wrong. The Lord has punished Nabal for his evil.” Then David sent a proposal of marriage to Abigail.
