Elijah got up, ate and drank, and the food gave him enough strength to walk forty days to Sinai, the holy mountain.

He drank water from the brook, and ravens brought him bread and meat every morning and every evening.

The Lord's angel returned and woke him up a second time, saying, “Get up and eat, or the trip will be too much for you.”

All of Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the Lord had come down on it in fire. The smoke went up like the smoke of a furnace, and all the people trembled violently.

Moses went on up the mountain into the cloud. There he stayed for forty days and nights.

One day while Moses was taking care of the sheep and goats of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian, he led the flock across the desert and came to Sinai, the holy mountain.

Moses stayed there with the Lord forty days and nights, eating and drinking nothing. He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant—the Ten Commandments.

Meanwhile the Lord had said to Aaron, “Go into the desert to meet Moses.” So he went to meet him at the holy mountain; and when he met him, he kissed him.

When the time was up, they looked healthier and stronger than all those who had been eating the royal food.

After spending forty days and nights without food, Jesus was hungry.

where he stayed forty days, being tempted by Satan. Wild animals were there also, but angels came and helped him.

where he was tempted by the Devil for forty days. In all that time he ate nothing, so that he was hungry when it was over.

But his answer was: “My grace is all you need, for my power is greatest when you are weak.” I am most happy, then, to be proud of my weaknesses, in order to feel the protection of Christ's power over me.

Then once again I lay face downward in the Lord's presence for forty days and nights and did not eat or drink anything. I did this because you had sinned against the Lord and had made him angry.
