“Now go to the town of Zarephath, near Sidon, and stay there. I have commanded a widow who lives there to feed you.”

The brook will supply you with water to drink, and I have commanded ravens to bring you food there.”

Then the Lord said to Elijah,

He looked around and saw a loaf of bread and a jar of water near his head. He ate and drank, and lay down again.

The army of exiles from northern Israel will return and conquer Phoenicia as far north as Zarephath. The exiles from Jerusalem who are in Sardis will capture the towns of southern Judah.

Yet Elijah was not sent to anyone in Israel, but only to a widow living in Zarephath in the territory of Sidon.

Yet we who have this spiritual treasure are like common clay pots, in order to show that the supreme power belongs to God, not to us.

The Lord said to Gideon, “The men you have are too many for me to give them victory over the Midianites. They might think that they had won by themselves, and so give me no credit.

Then the Lord said to Gideon, “You still have too many men. Take them down to the water, and I will separate them for you there. If I tell you a man should go with you, he will go. If I tell you a man should not go with you, he will not go.”
