Good News Translation

King Solomon then sent for Adonijah and had him brought down from the altar. Adonijah went to the king and bowed low before him, and the king said to him, “You may go home.”

The next day a young man arrived from Saul's camp. To show his grief, he had torn his clothes and put dirt on his head. He went to David and bowed to the ground in respect.

The king, however, gave orders that Absalom should not live in the palace. “I don't want to see him,” the king said. So Absalom lived in his own house and did not appear before the king.

Absalom lived two years in Jerusalem without seeing the king.

So Joab went to King David and told him what Absalom had said. The king sent for Absalom, who went to him and bowed down to the ground in front of him. The king welcomed him with a kiss.

Bathsheba bowed low before the king, and he asked, “What do you want?”

Bathsheba bowed low and said, “May my lord the king live forever!”

Solomon replied, “If he is loyal, not even a hair on his head will be touched; but if he is not, he will die.”

When David was about to die, he called his son Solomon and gave him his last instructions:

Then the king sent for Shimei and said to him, “Build a house for yourself here in Jerusalem. Live in it and don't leave the city.

Have reverence for the Lord, my child, and honor the king. Have nothing to do with people who rebel against them;
