“But now I will come,” says the Lord, “because the needy are oppressed and the persecuted groan in pain. I will give them the security they long for.”

The helpless call to him, and he answers; he saves them from all their troubles.

If you oppress poor people, you insult the God who made them; but kindness shown to the poor is an act of worship.

You have not paid any wages to those who work in your fields. Listen to their complaints! The cries of those who gather in your crops have reached the ears of God, the Lord Almighty.

The Lord says to the nations, “Now I will act. I will show how powerful I am.

But God saves the poor from death; he saves the needy from oppression.

O Lord, punish those wicked people! Remember those who are suffering!

God will rescue you from slander; he will save you when destruction comes.

They will be symbols of the Lord Almighty's presence in Egypt. When the people there are oppressed and call out to the Lord for help, he will send someone to rescue them.

His father, on the other hand, cheated and robbed and always did evil to everyone. And so he died because of the sins he himself had committed.

Don't be surprised when you see that the government oppresses the poor and denies them justice and their rights. Every official is protected by someone higher, and both are protected by still higher officials.

Then I looked again at all the injustice that goes on in this world. The oppressed were crying, and no one would help them. No one would help them, because their oppressors had power on their side.

You will hear the cries of the oppressed and the orphans; you will judge in their favor, so that mortal men may cause terror no more.

The wicked succeed in everything. They cannot understand God's judgments; they sneer at their enemies.

So they got rid of their foreign gods and worshiped the Lord; and he became troubled over Israel's distress.

“Who is the Lord?” the king demanded. “Why should I listen to him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord; and I will not let Israel go.”

How wonderful are the good things you keep for those who honor you! Everyone knows how good you are, how securely you protect those who trust you.

They laugh at other people and speak of evil things; they are proud and make plans to oppress others.

What you say can preserve life or destroy it; so you must accept the consequences of your words.

They keep on turning away from me to a god that is powerless. They are as unreliable as a crooked bow. Because their leaders talk arrogantly, they will die a violent death, and the Egyptians will laugh.”
