So then, my dear friends, stand firm and steady. Keep busy always in your work for the Lord, since you know that nothing you do in the Lord's service is ever useless.

I speak to you as sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say.

“The Kingdom of heaven is like this. Once there was a man who went out early in the morning to hire some men to work in his vineyard.

It will be like a man who goes away from home on a trip and leaves his servants in charge, after giving to each one his own work to do and after telling the doorkeeper to keep watch.

What about those eighteen people in Siloam who were killed when the tower fell on them? Do you suppose this proves that they were worse than all the other people living in Jerusalem?

“Listen to another parable,” Jesus said. “There was once a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a hole for the wine press, and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to tenants and left home on a trip.

“Of course,” Peter answered. When Peter went into the house, Jesus spoke up first, “Simon, what is your opinion? Who pays duties or taxes to the kings of this world? The citizens of the country or the foreigners?”

Tell us, then, what do you think? Is it against our Law to pay taxes to the Roman Emperor, or not?”

Hobab answered, “No, I am going back to my native land.”

So they answered Jesus, “We don't know.” And he said to them, “Neither will I tell you, then, by what right I do these things.

‘I don't want to,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.
