When they saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. “It's a ghost!” they said, and screamed with fear.

They were terrified, thinking that they were seeing a ghost.

When I saw him, I fell down at his feet like a dead man. He placed his right hand on me and said, “Don't be afraid! I am the first and the last.

Full of fear, the women bowed down to the ground, as the men said to them, “Why are you looking among the dead for one who is alive?

“You are crazy!” they told her. But she insisted that it was true. So they answered, “It is his angel.”

Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures,

but could not find his body. They came back saying they had seen a vision of angels who told them that he is alive.
