John's clothes were made of camel's hair; he wore a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey.

When that time comes, no prophet will be proud of his visions or act like a prophet or wear a prophet's coarse garment in order to deceive people.

Three years earlier the Lord had told Isaiah son of Amoz to take off his sandals and the sackcloth he was wearing. He obeyed and went around naked and barefoot.

“He was wearing a cloak made of animal skins, tied with a leather belt,” they answered. “It's Elijah!” the king exclaimed.

I will send my two witnesses dressed in sackcloth, and they will proclaim God's message during those 1, 260 days.”

While John's disciples were leaving, Jesus spoke about him to the crowds: “When you went out to John in the desert, what did you expect to see? A blade of grass bending in the wind?

Tell me, what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes indeed, but you saw much more than a prophet.

What did you go out to see? A man dressed up in fancy clothes? People who dress like that and live in luxury are found in palaces!
