While John's disciples were leaving, Jesus spoke about him to the crowds: “When you went out to John in the desert, what did you expect to see? A blade of grass bending in the wind?

But when you pray, you must believe and not doubt at all. Whoever doubts is like a wave in the sea that is driven and blown about by the wind.

John was like a lamp, burning and shining, and you were willing for a while to enjoy his light.

Then we shall no longer be children, carried by the waves and blown about by every shifting wind of the teaching of deceitful people, who lead others into error by the tricks they invent.

You are like a raging flood, But you will not be the most important, For you slept with my concubine And dishonored your father's bed.

“Be careful, then, how you listen; because those who have something will be given more, but whoever has nothing will have taken away from them even the little they think they have.”

Where did John's right to baptize come from: was it from God or from human beings?” They started to argue among themselves, “What shall we say? If we answer, ‘From God,’ he will say to us, ‘Why, then, did you not believe John?’

People came to him from Jerusalem, from the whole province of Judea, and from all over the country near the Jordan River.

Jesus turned, saw them following him, and asked, “What are you looking for?” They answered, “Where do you live, Rabbi?” (This word means “Teacher.”)

What did you go out to see? A man dressed up in fancy clothes? People who dress like that live in palaces!

He will not break off a bent reed, nor put out a flickering lamp. He will persist until he causes justice to triumph,
