He went away once more and prayed, saying the same words.

Three times I prayed to the Lord about this and asked him to take it away.

“When you pray, do not use a lot of meaningless words, as the pagans do, who think that their gods will hear them because their prayers are long.

Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to teach them that they should always pray and never become discouraged.

And he said to them, “Keep watch, and pray that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Then he came back to the disciples and found them asleep; they could not keep their eyes open. And they did not know what to say to him.

In his life on earth Jesus made his prayers and requests with loud cries and tears to God, who could save him from death. Because he was humble and devoted, God heard him.
