When the members of the Council heard this, they were so furious that they wanted to have the apostles put to death.

One fate comes to all alike, and this is as wrong as anything that happens in this world. As long as people live, their minds are full of evil and madness, and suddenly they die.

Many times I had them punished in the synagogues and tried to make them deny their faith. I was so furious with them that I even went to foreign cities to persecute them.

As the members of the Council listened to Stephen, they became furious and ground their teeth at him in anger.

But Peter and John answered them, “You yourselves judge which is right in God's sight—to obey you or to obey God.

So they told them to leave the Council room, and then they started discussing among themselves.

So the Pharisees and the chief priests met with the Council and said, “What shall we do? Look at all the miracles this man is performing!

The chief priests and the Pharisees heard Jesus' parables and knew that he was talking about them,

They started discussing among themselves, “He says this because we didn't bring any bread.”

He looked around at them all; then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand became well again.

At that time Jesus went up a hill to pray and spent the whole night there praying to God.

But they will not get very far, because everyone will see how stupid they are. That is just what happened to Jannes and Jambres.
