Some soldiers also asked him, “What about us? What are we to do?” He said to them, “Don't take money from anyone by force or accuse anyone falsely. Be content with your pay.”

And I am not saying this because I feel neglected, for I have learned to be satisfied with what I have.

“Do not steal or cheat or lie.

“Do not spread false rumors, and do not help a guilty person by giving false testimony.

Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Listen, sir! I will give half my belongings to the poor, and if I have cheated anyone, I will pay back four times as much.”

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven saying, “Now God's salvation has come! Now God has shown his power as King! Now his Messiah has shown his authority! For the one who stood before our God and accused believers day and night has been thrown out of heaven.

In the same way instruct the older women to behave as women should who live a holy life. They must not be slanderers or slaves to wine. They must teach what is good,

so that you may be innocent and pure as God's perfect children, who live in a world of corrupt and sinful people. You must shine among them like stars lighting up the sky,

Then the angel went away, and Cornelius called two of his house servants and a soldier, a religious man who was one of his personal attendants.

When Jesus entered Capernaum, a Roman officer met him and begged for help:

The people asked him, “What are we to do, then?”

“Don't collect more than is legal,” he told them.
