Then Jesus told them this parable: “There was once a man who had a fig tree growing in his vineyard. He went looking for figs on it but found none.

You did not choose me; I chose you and appointed you to go and bear much fruit, the kind of fruit that endures. And so the Father will give you whatever you ask of him in my name.

But the Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

I planted you like a choice vine from the very best seed. But look what you have become! You are like a rotten, worthless vine.

It is not that I just want to receive gifts; rather, I want to see profit added to your account.

“I wanted to gather my people, as a farmer gathers a harvest; but they are like a vine with no grapes, like a fig tree with no figs; even the leaves have withered. Therefore, I have allowed outsiders to take over the land.”

The ax is ready to cut down the trees at the roots; every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown in the fire.”

No indeed! And I tell you that if you do not turn from your sins, you will all die as they did.”

But the fig tree answered, ‘In order to govern you, I would have to stop producing my good sweet fruit.’
