In his fury he shattered the strength of Israel; He refused to help us when the enemy came. He raged against us like fire, destroying everything.

Why have you refused to help us? Why do you keep your hands behind you?

So he made us feel the force of his anger and suffer the violence of war. Like fire his anger burned throughout Israel, but we never knew what was happening; we learned nothing at all from it.

He will break the power of the wicked, but the power of the righteous will be increased.

I tell them to stop their boasting.”

Moab's might has been crushed; its power has been destroyed. I, the Lord, have spoken.”

Lord, will you hide yourself forever? How long will your anger burn like fire?

Lord, will you be angry with us forever? Will your anger continue to burn like fire?

He has his winnowing shovel with him, to thresh out all the grain and gather the wheat into his barn; but he will burn the chaff in a fire that never goes out.”

He has provided for us a mighty Savior, a descendant of his servant David.

The Lord Almighty says, “The day is coming when all proud and evil people will burn like straw. On that day they will burn up, and there will be nothing left of them.

But I will punish you for what you have done. I will set your palace on fire, and the fire will burn down everything around it. I, the Lord, have spoken.”

And so I, the Sovereign Lord, will pour out my fierce anger on this Temple. I will pour it out on people and animals alike, and even on the trees and the crops. My anger will be like a fire that no one can put out.

Keep your covenant with me, your Lord, and dedicate yourselves to me, you people of Judah and Jerusalem. If you don't, my anger will burn like fire because of the evil things you have done. It will burn, and there will be no one to put it out.”

Just as straw is set on fire by a spark, so powerful people will be destroyed by their own evil deeds, and no one will be able to stop the destruction.

Here I will make one of David's descendants a great king; here I will preserve the rule of my chosen king.

I will love him and be loyal to him; I will make him always victorious.

I mourn and wear clothes made of sackcloth, and I sit here in the dust defeated.

My anger will flame up like fire and burn everything on earth. It will reach to the world below and consume the roots of the mountains.

They have rejected me and have offered sacrifices to other gods, and so have stirred up my anger by all they have done. My anger is aroused against Jerusalem, and it will not die down.

“He sent fire from above, a fire that burned inside me. He set a trap for me and brought me to the ground. Then he abandoned me and left me in constant pain.

The Lord turned loose the full force of his fury; he lit a fire in Zion that burned it to the ground.

The trumpet blows, and everyone gets ready. But no one goes off to war, for God's anger will fall on everyone alike.

Now this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “In my anger I will send a strong wind, pouring rain, and hailstones to destroy the wall.

When he is angry, who can survive? Who can survive his terrible fury? He pours out his flaming anger; rocks crumble to dust before him.
