John 19:4

Good News Translation (US Version)

Pilate went back out once more and said to the crowd, “Look, I will bring him out here to you to let you see that I cannot find any reason to condemn him.”

When the chief priests and the Temple guards saw him, they shouted, “Crucify him! Crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “You take him, then, and crucify him. I find no reason to condemn him.”

“And what is truth?” Pilate asked. Then Pilate went back outside to the people and said to them, “I cannot find any reason to condemn him.

Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no reason to condemn this man.”

The army officer saw what had happened, and he praised God, saying, “Certainly he was a good man!”

You know that Christ appeared in order to take away sins, and that there is no sin in him.

For Christ died for sins once and for all, a good man on behalf of sinners, in order to lead you to God. He was put to death physically, but made alive spiritually,

He committed no sin, and no one ever heard a lie come from his lips.

it was the costly sacrifice of Christ, who was like a lamb without defect or flaw.

Christ was without sin, but for our sake God made him share our sin in order that in union with him we might share the righteousness of God.

Ours, however, is only right, because we are getting what we deserve for what we did; but he has done no wrong.”

When the army officer and the soldiers with him who were watching Jesus saw the earthquake and everything else that happened, they were terrified and said, “He really was the Son of God!”

When Pilate saw that it was no use to go on, but that a riot might break out, he took some water, washed his hands in front of the crowd, and said, “I am not responsible for the death of this man! This is your doing!”

While Pilate was sitting in the judgment hall, his wife sent him a message: “Have nothing to do with that innocent man, because in a dream last night I suffered much on account of him.”

“I have sinned by betraying an innocent man to death!” he said. “What do we care about that?” they answered. “That is your business!”

Jesus, then, is the High Priest that meets our needs. He is holy; he has no fault or sin in him; he has been set apart from sinners and raised above the heavens.

Pilate went back into the palace and called Jesus. “Are you the king of the Jews?” he asked him.
