Their tongues are like deadly arrows; they always tell lies. Everyone speaks friendly words to their neighbors, but they are really setting a trap for them.

Do not condemn me with the wicked, with those who do evil— those whose words are friendly, but who have hatred in their hearts.

They are always ready to tell lies; dishonesty instead of truth rules the land. The Lord says, “My people do one evil thing after another and do not acknowledge me as their God.”

You liars, what will God do to you? How will he punish you?

I am surrounded by enemies, who are like lions hungry for human flesh. Their teeth are like spears and arrows; their tongues are like sharp swords.

His words were smoother than cream, but there was hatred in his heart; his words were as soothing as oil, but they cut like sharp swords.

All of them lie to one another; they deceive each other with flattery.

When Abner arrived in Hebron, Joab took him aside at the gate, as though he wanted to speak privately with him, and there he stabbed him in the stomach. And so Abner was murdered because he had killed Joab's brother Asahel.

They all mislead their friends, and no one tells the truth; they have taught their tongues to lie and will not give up their sinning. They do one violent thing after another, and one deceitful act follows another. The Lord says that his people reject him.

“Evildoers live among my people; they lie in wait like those who lay nets to catch birds, but they have set their traps to catch people.

He will destroy them because of those words; all who see them will shake their heads.

They do not speak in a friendly way; instead they invent all kinds of lies about peace-loving people.

A false accusation is as deadly as a sword, a club, or a sharp arrow.

Everyone must be on guard against their friends, and no one can trust their relatives; for all relatives are as deceitful as Jacob, and everyone slanders their friends.

Your rich people exploit the poor, and all of you are liars.

Silence those flattering tongues, O Lord! Close those boastful mouths that say,

I depend on God alone; I put my hope in him.

Shouldn't I punish them for these things and take revenge on a nation such as this?
