So get rid of your old self, which made you live as you used to—the old self that was being destroyed by its deceitful desires.

But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these are the things that make you ritually unclean.

Instead, in order that none of you be deceived by sin and become stubborn, you must help one another every day, as long as the word “Today” in the scripture applies to us.

It makes as much sense as eating ashes. His foolish ideas have so misled him that he is beyond help. He won't admit to himself that the idol he holds in his hand is not a god at all.

But does this mean that what is good caused my death? By no means! It was sin that did it; by using what is good, sin brought death to me, in order that its true nature as sin might be revealed. And so, by means of the commandment sin is shown to be even more terribly sinful.

Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts.

But now I tell you: anyone who looks at a woman and wants to possess her is guilty of committing adultery with her in his heart.

Sin found its chance, and by means of the commandment it deceived me and killed me.

When the Lord saw how wicked everyone on earth was and how evil their thoughts were all the time,

The odor of the sacrifice pleased the Lord, and he said to himself, “Never again will I put the earth under a curse because of what people do; I know that from the time they are young their thoughts are evil. Never again will I destroy all living beings, as I have done this time.

“I will destroy you, people of Israel! Then who can help you?

The woman saw how beautiful the tree was and how good its fruit would be to eat, and she thought how wonderful it would be to become wise. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, and he also ate it.

David sent messengers to get her; they brought her to him and he made love to her. (She had just finished her monthly ritual of purification.) Then she went back home.

Then the Spirit led Jesus into the desert to be tempted by the Devil.

If we are tempted by such trials, we must not say, “This temptation comes from God.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one.

Then our evil desires conceive and give birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
