Listen while I sing you this song, a song of my friend and his vineyard: My friend had a vineyard on a very fertile hill.

Then Jesus spoke to them in parables: “Once there was a man who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a hole for the wine press, and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to tenants and left home on a trip.

Beautiful words fill my mind, as I compose this song for the king. Like the pen of a good writer my tongue is ready with a poem.

My song is about loyalty and justice, and I sing it to you, O Lord.

Save us by your might; answer our prayer, so that the people you love may be rescued.

Many foreign rulers have destroyed my vineyard; they have trampled down my fields; they have turned my lovely land into a desert.

“Mortal man,” he said, “how does a vine compare with a tree? What good is a branch of a grapevine compared with the trees of the forest?

The people of Israel were like a grapevine that was full of grapes. The more prosperous they were, the more altars they built. The more productive their land was, the more beautiful they made the sacred stone pillars they worship.

The Lord your God is bringing you into a fertile land—a land that has rivers and springs, and underground streams gushing out into the valleys and hills;

You will have all you want to eat, and you will give thanks to the Lord your God for the fertile land that he has given you.

Your mother was like a grapevine planted near a stream. Because there was plenty of water, the vine was covered with leaves and fruit.
