Jerusalem alone is left, a city under siege—as defenseless as a guard's hut in a vineyard or a shed in a cucumber field.

Rejoice, rejoice, people of Zion! Shout for joy, you people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you! He comes triumphant and victorious, but humble and riding on a donkey— on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

“Do not be afraid, city of Zion! Here comes your king, riding on a young donkey.”

The Lord said, “Sing for joy, people of Jerusalem! I am coming to live among you!”

That the Lord is announcing to all the earth: “Tell the people of Jerusalem That the Lord is coming to save you, Bringing with him the people he has rescued.”

Today the enemy are in the town of Nob, and there they are shaking their fists at Mount Zion, at the city of Jerusalem.

He smashed to pieces the Temple where we worshiped him; He has put an end to holy days and Sabbaths. King and priest alike have felt the force of his anger.

The Lord in his anger has covered Zion with darkness. Its heavenly splendor he has turned into ruins. On the day of his anger he abandoned even his Temple.

the Lord had said, “The city of Jerusalem laughs at you, Sennacherib, and makes fun of you.

By his power the Lord will judge and purify the nation and wash away the guilt of Jerusalem and the blood that has been shed there.

that I may stand before the people of Jerusalem and tell them all the things for which I praise you. I will rejoice because you saved me.

The wicked build houses like a spider's web or like the hut of a slave guarding the fields.

and will surround Jerusalem like men guarding a field, because her people have rebelled against the Lord. The Lord has spoken.

They will sweep through Judah in a flood, rising shoulder high and covering everything.” God is with us! His outspread wings protect the land.

Your country has been devastated, and your cities have been burned to the ground. While you look on, foreigners take over your land and bring everything to ruin.

If the Lord Almighty had not let some of the people survive, Jerusalem would have been totally destroyed, just as Sodom and Gomorrah were.

Then you will say to yourself, ‘Who bore all these children for me? I lost my children and could have no more. I was exiled and driven away— who brought these children up? I was left all alone— where did these children come from?’”

The city of Zion is beautiful, but it will be destroyed;

God will attack the city, surround it, and besiege it.

A thousand of you will run away when you see one enemy soldier, and five soldiers will be enough to make you all run away. Nothing will be left of your army except a lonely flagpole on the top of a hill.

The Assyrian emperor has sent his chief official to insult the living God. May the Lord your God hear these insults and punish those who spoke them. So pray to God for those of our people who survive.”
