All those people speak about how you received us when we visited you, and how you turned away from idols to God, to serve the true and living God

The Word was in the world, and though God made the world through him, yet the world did not recognize him.

Through him God made all things; not one thing in all creation was made without him.

Then you will answer, ‘We ate and drank with you; you taught in our town!’

For where two or three come together in my name, I am there with them.”

As smoke is blown away, so he drives them off; as wax melts in front of the fire, so do the wicked perish in God's presence.

But all who find safety in you will rejoice; they can always sing for joy. Protect those who love you; because of you they are truly happy.

They will not live to see rivers of olive oil or streams that flow with milk and honey.

“All right,” the Lord said to Satan, “everything he has is in your power, but you must not hurt Job himself.” So Satan left.

Jonah, however, set out in the opposite direction in order to get away from the Lord. He went to Joppa, where he found a ship about to go to Spain. He paid his fare and went aboard with the crew to sail to Spain, where he would be away from the Lord.
