Genesis 17:8

Good News Translation (US Version)

I will give to you and to your descendants this land in which you are now a foreigner. The whole land of Canaan will belong to your descendants forever, and I will be their God.”

I will be with you; I will be your God, and you will be my people.

“I will give you the land of Canaan,” he said. “It will be your own possession.”

I will make you my own people, and I will be your God. You will know that I am the Lord your God when I set you free from slavery in Egypt.

The Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “This is the country that I am going to give to your descendants.” Then Abram built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.

so that the Lord may now confirm you as his people and be your God, as he promised you and your ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Today the Lord has accepted you as his own people, as he promised you; and he commands you to obey all his laws.

You belong to the Lord your God; he has chosen you to be his own people from among all the peoples who live on earth.

I am going to give you and your descendants all the land that you see, and it will be yours forever.

He will keep the agreement he made with Abraham and his promise to Isaac.

Because he loved your ancestors, he chose you, and by his great power he himself brought you out of Egypt.

May he bless you and your descendants as he blessed Abraham, and may you take possession of this land, in which you have lived and which God gave to Abraham!”

Now, go and look over the whole land, because I am going to give it all to you.”

And that is how God will bless my descendants, because he has made an eternal covenant with me, an agreement that will not be broken, a promise that will not be changed. That is all I desire; that will be my victory, and God will surely bring it about.

The Most High assigned nations their lands; he determined where peoples should live. He assigned to each nation a heavenly being,

He and his descendants are permanently established as priests, because he did not tolerate any rivals to me and brought about forgiveness for the people's sin.”

Then anoint them, just as you anointed their father, so that they can serve me as priests. This anointing will make them priests for all time to come.”

He said to me, ‘I will give you many children, so that your descendants will become many nations; I will give this land to your descendants as their possession forever.’”

“I am a foreigner living here among you; sell me some land, so that I can bury my wife.”

For this reason Christ is the one who arranges a new covenant, so that those who have been called by God may receive the eternal blessings that God has promised. This can be done because there has been a death which sets people free from the wrongs they did while the first covenant was in effect.

But for those who honor the Lord, his love lasts forever, and his goodness endures for all generations

These regulations are to be observed for all time to come. This ritual must be performed once a year to purify the people of Israel from all their sins. So Moses did as the Lord had commanded.

then his master shall take him to the place of worship. There he is to make him stand against the door or the doorpost and put a hole through his ear. Then he will be his slave for life.

God did not then give Abraham any part of it as his own, not even a square foot of ground, but God promised to give it to him, and that it would belong to him and to his descendants. At the time God made this promise, Abraham had no children.

Those who win the victory will receive this from me: I will be their God, and they will be my children.

That night the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid; I am with you. I will bless you and give you many descendants because of my promise to my servant Abraham.”

He left because the land where he and Jacob were living was not able to support them; they had too much livestock and could no longer stay together.

Jacob continued to live in the land of Canaan, where his father had lived,

“The Lord will bring you into the land of the Canaanites, which he solemnly promised to you and your ancestors. When he gives it to you,

I will live among the people of Israel, and I will be their God.

Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Remember the solemn promise you made to them to give them as many descendants as there are stars in the sky and to give their descendants all that land you promised would be their possession forever.”

It is not because you are good and do what is right that the Lord is letting you take their land. He will drive them out because they are wicked and because he intends to keep the promise that he made to your ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

They told you to turn from your wicked way of life and from the evil things you are doing, so that you could go on living in the land that the Lord gave you and your ancestors as a permanent possession.

The Lord says, “The time is coming when I will be the God of all the tribes of Israel, and they will be my people.

Jacob went to his father Isaac at Mamre, near Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac had lived.

I also made my covenant with them, promising to give them the land of Canaan, the land in which they had lived as foreigners.

the following regulations about houses affected by spreading mildew. (These were to apply after the people of Israel entered the land of Canaan, which the Lord was going to give them as their possession.) If any of you find that the Lord has sent mildew on your house, then you must go and tell the priest about it.

Moses said to his brother-in-law Hobab son of Jethro the Midianite, “We are about to start out for the place which the Lord said he would give us. He has promised to make Israel prosperous, so come with us, and we will share our prosperity with you.”

The Lord said to Moses, “Go up the Abarim Mountains and look out over the land that I am giving to the Israelites.

“Go to the Abarim Mountains in the land of Moab opposite the city of Jericho; climb Mount Nebo and look at the land of Canaan that I am about to give the people of Israel.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “This is the land that I promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob I would give to their descendants. I have let you see it, but I will not let you go there.”

He said, “My servant Moses is dead. Get ready now, you and all the people of Israel, and cross the Jordan River into the land that I am giving them.

“I will give you the land of Canaan,” he said. “It will be your own possession.”

Then they will keep my laws and faithfully obey all my commands. They will be my people, and I will be their God.

“Mortal man,” he said, “the people who are living in the ruined cities of the land of Israel are saying: ‘Abraham was only one man, and he was given the whole land. There are many of us, so now the land is ours.’

and will bring them back from east and west to live in Jerusalem. They will be my people, and I will be their God, ruling over them faithfully and justly.
