But Peter and John answered them, “You yourselves judge which is right in God's sight—to obey you or to obey God.

Peter and the other apostles answered, “We must obey God, not men.

But the midwives were God-fearing and so did not obey the king; instead, they let the boys live.

I speak to you as sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say.

This is good and it pleases God our Savior,

Stop judging by external standards, and judge by true standards.”

But Micaiah answered, “By the living Lord I promise that I will say what he tells me to!”

But even if he doesn't, Your Majesty may be sure that we will not worship your god, and we will not bow down to the gold statue that you have set up.”

So now listen to what the Lord says. You tell me to stop prophesying, to stop raving against the people of Israel.

then you are guilty of creating distinctions among yourselves and of making judgments based on evil motives.

Children, it is your Christian duty to obey your parents, for this is the right thing to do.

We put aside all secret and shameful deeds; we do not act with deceit, nor do we falsify the word of God. In the full light of truth we live in God's sight and try to commend ourselves to everyone's good conscience.

This will happen because you have followed the evil practices of King Omri and of his son, King Ahab. You have continued their policies, and so I will bring you to ruin, and everyone will despise you. People everywhere will treat you with contempt.”

It was faith that made the parents of Moses hide him for three months after he was born. They saw that he was a beautiful child, and they were not afraid to disobey the king's order.

Then I said, “The Lord sent me to proclaim everything that you heard me say against this Temple and against this city.

Jesus sent Peter and John with these instructions: “Go and get the Passover meal ready for us to eat.”

The members of the Council were amazed to see how bold Peter and John were and to learn that they were ordinary men of no education. They realized then that they had been companions of Jesus.

“We gave you strict orders not to teach in the name of this man,” he said; “but see what you have done! You have spread your teaching all over Jerusalem, and you want to make us responsible for his death!”

So the prophet from Judah went home with the old prophet and had a meal with him.

Uriah did as the king commanded.
