Acts 13:1

In the church at Antioch there were some prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon (called the Black), Lucius (from Cyrene), Manaen (who had been brought up with Governor Herod), and Saul.

And so it was that Joseph, a Levite born in Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means “One who Encourages”),

Paul and Barnabas spent some time in Antioch, and together with many others they taught and preached the word of the Lord.

James, Peter, and John, who seemed to be the leaders, recognized that God had given me this special task; so they shook hands with Barnabas and me, as a sign that we were all partners. We agreed that Barnabas and I would work among the Gentiles and they among the Jews.

Then Saul—also known as Paul—was filled with the Holy Spirit; he looked straight at the magician

It was he who “gave gifts to people”; he appointed some to be apostles, others to be prophets, others to be evangelists, others to be pastors and teachers.

Judas and Silas, who were themselves prophets, spoke a long time with them, giving them courage and strength.

It was the fifteenth year of the rule of Emperor Tiberius; Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod was ruler of Galilee, and his brother Philip was ruler of the territory of Iturea and Trachonitis; Lysanias was ruler of Abilene,

All God's people here send greetings, especially those who belong to the Emperor's palace.

The other Jewish believers also started acting like cowards along with Peter; and even Barnabas was swept along by their cowardly action.

Or are Barnabas and I the only ones who have to work for our living?

Timothy, my fellow worker, sends you his greetings; and so do Lucius, Jason, and Sosipater, fellow Jews.

He had four unmarried daughters who proclaimed God's message.

Paul placed his hands on them, and the Holy Spirit came upon them; they spoke in strange tongues and also proclaimed God's message.

They did this, then, and sent the money to the church elders by Barnabas and Saul.

Barnabas and Saul finished their mission and returned from Jerusalem, taking John Mark with them.

In the meantime Saul kept up his violent threats of murder against the followers of the Lord. He went to the High Priest

As they were going out, they met a man from Cyrene named Simon, and the soldiers forced him to carry Jesus' cross.

So a man who prays or proclaims God's message in public worship with his head covered disgraces Christ.

I may have the gift of inspired preaching; I may have all knowledge and understand all secrets; I may have all the faith needed to move mountains—but if I have no love, I am nothing.

Love is eternal. There are inspired messages, but they are temporary; there are gifts of speaking in strange tongues, but they will cease; there is knowledge, but it will pass.

Two or three who are given God's message should speak, while the others are to judge what they say.

The gift of proclaiming God's message should be under the speaker's control,
