He was a religious man; he and his whole family worshiped God. He also did much to help the Jewish poor people and was constantly praying to God.

He stared at the angel in fear and said, “What is it, sir?” The angel answered, “God is pleased with your prayers and works of charity, and is ready to answer you.

“Captain Cornelius sent us,” they answered. “He is a good man who worships God and is highly respected by all the Jewish people. An angel of God told him to invite you to his house, so that he could hear what you have to say.”

Paul stood up, motioned with his hand, and began to speak: “Fellow Israelites and all Gentiles here who worship God: hear me!

Those who fear him and do what is right are acceptable to him, no matter what race they belong to.

Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to teach them that they should always pray and never become discouraged.

I command that throughout my empire everyone should fear and respect Daniel's God. “He is a living God, and he will rule forever. His kingdom will never be destroyed, and his power will never come to an end.

When he got there, he called out anxiously, “Daniel, servant of the living God! Was the God you serve so loyally able to save you from the lions?”

When Daniel learned that the order had been signed, he went home. In an upstairs room of his house there were windows that faced toward Jerusalem. There, just as he had always done, he knelt down at the open windows and prayed to God three times a day.

From east to west everyone will fear him and his great power. He will come like a rushing river, like a strong wind.

Avoid both extremes. If you have reverence for God, you will be successful anyway.

Happy are those who follow his commands, who obey him with all their heart.

The nations will fear the Lord; all the kings of the earth will fear his power.

Lord God, my savior, I cry out all day, and at night I come before you.

You are my God, so be merciful to me; I pray to you all day long.

There were Jews living in Jerusalem, religious people who had come from every country in the world.

He will speak words to you by which you and all your family will be saved.’

In the same way the servant who had received two thousand coins earned another two thousand.
