But in the seventh year Jehoiada the priest sent for the officers in charge of the royal bodyguard and of the palace guards, and told them to come to the Temple, where he made them agree under oath to what he planned to do. He showed them King Ahaziah's son Joash

and then he, the officers, the royal bodyguard, and the palace guards escorted the king from the Temple to the palace, followed by all the people. Joash entered by the Guard Gate and took his place on the throne.

The officers obeyed Jehoiada's instructions and brought their men to him—those going off duty on the Sabbath and those going on duty.

They made a covenant in which they agreed to worship the Lord, the God of their ancestors, with all their heart and soul.

The priest Jehoiada had King Joash and the people make a covenant with the Lord that they would be the Lord's people; he also made a covenant between the king and the people.

So the officer went off with his men and brought the apostles back. They did not use force, however, because they were afraid that the people might stone them.

When the chief priests and the officer in charge of the Temple guards heard this, they wondered what had happened to the apostles.

do hereby join with our leaders in an oath, under penalty of a curse if we break it, that we will live according to God's Law, which God gave through his servant Moses; that we will obey all that the Lord, our Lord, commands us; and that we will keep all his laws and requirements.

Because of all that has happened, we, the people of Israel, hereby make a solemn written agreement, and our leaders, our Levites, and our priests put their seals to it.

The leaders replied, “We'll do as you say. We'll give the property back and not try to collect the debts.” I called in the priests and made the leaders swear in front of them to keep the promise they had just made.

“I have now decided to make a covenant with the Lord, the God of Israel, so that he will no longer be angry with us.

The priests who were heads of families totaled 1,760. They were experts in all the work carried on in the Temple.

He stood by the royal column and made a covenant with the Lord to obey him, to keep his laws and commands with all his heart and soul, and to put into practice the demands attached to the covenant, as written in the book. And all the people promised to keep the covenant.

By the living Lord, your God, I swear that the king has made a search for you in every country in the world. Whenever the ruler of a country reported that you were not in his country, Ahab would require that ruler to swear that you could not be found.

The two of them made a sacred promise of friendship to each other. David stayed at Horesh, and Jonathan went home.

Jonathan swore eternal friendship with David because of his deep affection for him.

So Joshua made a covenant for the people that day, and there at Shechem he gave them laws and rules to follow.

Then Joseph asked his people to make a vow. “Promise me,” he said, “that when God leads you to that land, you will take my body with you.”

Joab was in command of the army of Israel; Benaiah son of Jehoiada was in charge of David's bodyguards;

For six years Jehosheba took care of the boy and kept him hidden in the Temple, while Athaliah ruled as queen.

Benaiah son of Jehoiada was in charge of David's bodyguards; and David's sons were priests.

To replace them, King Rehoboam made bronze shields and entrusted them to the officers responsible for guarding the palace gates.

So he called in Jehoiada and the other priests and asked them, “Why aren't you repairing the Temple? From now on you are not to keep the money you receive; you must hand it over, so that the repairs can be made.”
