Romans 9:4

God's Word

They are Israelites, God’s adopted children. They have the Lord’s glory, the pledges, Moses’ Teachings, the true worship, and the promises.

At that time the Lord made a promise  to Abram. He said, “I will give this land to your descendants. This is the land from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates.

This is how you are to be faithful to my promise: Every male among you is to be circumcised.

I will give you my promise, and I will give you very many descendants.”

I will make my promise to you and your descendants for generations to come as an everlasting promise. I will be your God and the God of your descendants.

The man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob but Israel [He Struggles With God], because you have struggled with God and with men—and you have won.”

The priests couldn’t serve because of the cloud. The Lord’s glory filled his temple.

⌞Nehemiah prayed,⌟ “Remember them, my God, because they have contaminated the priestly office and the promise  you made to the priests and Levites.”

He speaks his word to Jacob, his laws and judicial decisions to Israel.

So I look for you in the holy place to see your power and your glory.

God is truly good to Israel, to those whose lives are pure.

He allowed his power to be taken captive and handed his glory over to an oppressor.

⌞You said,⌟ “I have made a promise  to my chosen one. I swore this oath to my servant David:

I will not dishonor my promise or alter my own agreement.

Let ⌞us,⌟ your servants, see what you can do. Let our children see your glorious power.

When you enter the land that the Lord will give you as he promised, observe this ceremony.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write down these words, because on the basis of these words I’m making a promise to Israel and to you.”

Then tell Pharaoh, ‘This is what the Lord says: Israel is my firstborn son.

Then the ⌞column of⌟ smoke covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tent.

“But you are my servant Israel, Jacob, whom I have chosen, the descendant of Abraham, my dear friend.

Listen to me, descendants of Jacob, the few people left of the nation of Israel. I’ve carried you since your birth. I’ve taken care of you from the time you were born.

He dug it up, removed its stones, planted it with the choicest vines, built a watchtower in it, and made a winepress in it. Then he waited for it to produce good grapes, but it produced only sour, wild grapes.

The sun will no longer be your light during the day, nor will the brightness of the moon give you light, But the Lord will be your everlasting light. Your God will be your glory.

Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he a pleasant child? Even though I have often spoken against him, I still think fondly of him. That is why my heart longs for him, and I will certainly have compassion on him,” declares the Lord.

“But this is the promise that I will make to Israel after those days,” declares the Lord: “I will put my teachings inside them, and I will write those teachings on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

They will cry as they return. They will pray as I bring them back. I will lead them beside streams on a level path where they will not stumble. I will be a Father to Israel, and Ephraim will be my firstborn.

The brightness all around him looked like a rainbow in the clouds. It was like the Lord’s glory. When I saw it, I immediately bowed down, and I heard someone speaking.

“When Israel was a child, I loved him, and I called my son out of Egypt.

Whenever Moses went into the tent of meeting to speak with the Lord, he heard the voice speaking to him from above the throne of mercy on the ark containing the words of God’s promise, from between the two angels. This is how the Lord spoke with Moses.

“Listen to another illustration. A landowner planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, made a winepress, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to vineyard workers and went on a trip.

Laws were given through Moses, but kindness and truth came into existence through Jesus Christ.

Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and remarked, “Here is a true Israelite who is sincere.”

This promise belongs to you and to your children and to everyone who is far away. It belongs to everyone who worships the Lord our God.”

There are all kinds of advantages. First of all, God entrusted them with his word.

You haven’t received the spirit of slaves that leads you into fear again. Instead, you have received the spirit of God’s adopted children by which we call out, “Abba!  Father!”

Now it is not as though God’s word has failed. Clearly, not everyone descended from Israel is part of Israel

Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they Abraham’s descendants? So am I.

The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his descendant. Scripture doesn’t say, “descendants,” referring to many, but “your descendant,” referring to one. That descendant is Christ.

Also, at that time you were without Christ. You were excluded from citizenship in Israel, and the pledges  ⌞God made in his⌟ promise were foreign to you. You had no hope and were in the world without God.

You are the children of the Lord your God. So when someone dies, don’t ⌞mourn⌟ by cutting yourselves or shaving bald spots on your head.

These are the terms of the promise  that the Lord commanded Moses to give to the Israelites in Moab. This was in addition to the promise the Lord gave them at Mount Horeb.

You aren’t the only people to receive this promise and its conditions.

The Lord said to Moses, “Soon you are going to lie down in death with your ancestors. When these people enter the land and are living among the foreigners there, they will chase after foreign gods as though they were prostitutes. They will abandon me and reject the promise  I made to them.

The Lord told you about the terms of his promise, the ten commandments, which he commanded you to do. Then he wrote them on two stone tablets.

You are a holy people, who belong to the Lord your God. He chose you to be his own special possession out of all the nations on earth.

The first promise had rules for the priests’ service. It also had a holy place on earth.

These gifts and sacrifices were meant to be food, drink, and items used in various purification ceremonies. These ceremonies were required for the body until God would establish a new way of doing things.

Behind the second curtain was the part of the tent called the most holy place.

Above the ark were the angels  of glory ⌞with their wings⌟ overshadowing the throne of mercy. (Discussing these things in detail isn’t possible now.)

That is how these two parts of the tent were set up. The priests always went into the first part of the tent to perform their duties.
