Something stood there. I couldn’t tell what it was. A vague image was in front of my eyes. I heard a soft voice:

Surrender yourself to the Lord, and wait patiently for him. Do not be preoccupied with ⌞an evildoer⌟ who succeeds in his way when he carries out his schemes.

My soul waits calmly for God alone. My salvation comes from him.

The Lord is in his holy temple. All the earth should be silent in his presence.

“Everyone be silent in the presence of the Lord. He is waking up and setting out from his holy dwelling place.”

So they went to secure the tomb. They placed a seal on the stone and posted the soldiers on guard duty.

I saw a scroll in the right hand of the one who sits on the throne. It had writing both on the inside and on the outside. It was sealed with seven seals.

Then they sang a new song, “You deserve to take the scroll and open the seals on it, because you were slaughtered. You bought people with your blood to be God’s own. They are from every tribe, language, people, and nation.

I watched as the lamb opened the first of the seven seals. I heard one of the four living creatures say with a voice like thunder, “Go!”

I watched as the lamb opened the sixth seal. A powerful earthquake struck. The sun turned as black as sackcloth made of hair. The full moon turned as red as blood.

When the lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Go!”

When the lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Go!” I looked, and there was a black horse, and its rider held a scale.

When the lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Go!”

When the lamb opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slaughtered because of God’s word and the testimony they had given about him.
