The witnesses heard a loud voice from heaven calling to them, “Come up here.” They went up to heaven in a cloud, and their enemies watched them.

After these things I saw a door standing open in heaven. I heard the first voice like a trumpet speaking to me. It said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after this.”

After he had said this, he was taken to heaven. A cloud hid him so that they could no longer see him.

As they continued walking and talking, a fiery chariot with fiery horses separated the two of them, and Elijah went to heaven in a windstorm.

When the Lord was going to take Elijah to heaven in a windstorm, Elijah and Elisha left Gilgal.

Then you will again see the difference between righteous people and wicked people, between the one who serves God and the one who doesn’t serve him.

You thought, “I’ll go up to heaven and set up my throne above God’s stars. I’ll sit on the mountain far away in the north where the gods assemble.

The wicked person sees this and becomes angry. He angrily grits his teeth and disappears. The hope that wicked people have will vanish.

Grant me some proof of your goodness so that those who hate me may see it and be put to shame. You, O Lord, have helped me and comforted me.

Who may go up the Lord’s mountain? Who may stand in his holy place?

O Lord, who may stay in your tent? Who may live on your holy mountain?

Fifty disciples of the prophets stood at a distance as Elijah and Elisha stood by the Jordan River.

He made the wheels of their chariots come off so that they could hardly move. Then the Egyptians shouted, “Let’s get out of here! The Lord is fighting for Israel! He’s against us!”
