You give him peace and quiet from times of trouble while a pit is dug to trap wicked people.

If he keeps quiet, who can condemn him? If he hides his face, who can see him whether it is a nation or a single person?

Why should I be afraid in times of trouble, when slanderers surround me with evil?

But you, O God, will throw ⌞wicked people⌟ into the deepest pit. Bloodthirsty and deceitful people will not live out half their days. But I will trust you.

The nations have sunk into the pit they have made. Their feet are caught in the net they have hidden ⌞to trap others⌟.

Good should not be paid back with evil. They dig a pit to take my life. Remember how I stood in your presence and pleaded for them in order to turn your anger away from them.

Make them cry out from their homes when you suddenly send troops against them, because they dug a pit to catch me and hid snares for my feet.

I have heard, so there’s trembling within me. At the report my lips quivered. A rotten feeling has entered me. I tremble where I stand. I wait for the day of trouble to come to the people who will attack us.

Therefore, a time of eternal rest exists for God’s people.

Since the Lord did all this, he knows how to rescue godly people when they are tested. He also knows how to hold immoral people for punishment on the day of judgment.

“The nations were angry, but your anger has come. The time has come for the dead to be judged: to reward your servants, the prophets, your holy people, and those who fear your name, no matter if they are important or unimportant, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.”

I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: From now on those who die believing in the Lord are blessed.” “Yes,” says the Spirit. “Let them rest from their hard work. What they have done goes with them.”
