Return, Lord! How long … ? Change your plans about ⌞us,⌟ your servants.

He remembered his promise  to them. In keeping with his rich mercy, he changed his plans.

The Lord will provide justice for his people and have compassion on his servants.

In death, no one remembers you. In the grave, who praises you?

How long, O God, will the enemy insult us? Will the enemy despise you forever?

O God, commander of armies, come back! Look from heaven and see! Come to help this vine.

Take care of what your right hand planted, the son you strengthened for yourself.

How long, O Lord? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your anger continue to burn like fire?

Don’t let the Egyptians say, ‘He was planning all along to kill them in the mountains and wipe them off the face of the earth. That’s why he brought them out ⌞of our land⌟.’ Don’t be so angry. Reconsider your decision to bring this disaster on your people.

So the Lord reconsidered his threat to destroy his people.

O Lord, why do you let us wander from your ways and become so stubborn that we are unable to fear you? Return for the sake of your servants. They are the tribes that belong to you.

After I’ve uprooted them, I will have compassion on them again. I will return them to their inheritance and to their lands.

“How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I hand you over, Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I treat you like Zeboim? I have changed my mind. I am deeply moved.

The Lord changed his plans about this. “This won’t happen,” the Lord said.

Who knows? God may reconsider his plans and turn from his burning anger so that we won’t die.”

This is what the Lord of Armies says: I have returned to Jerusalem with compassion. My house will be rebuilt in it, declares the Lord of Armies. A measuring line will be used to rebuild Jerusalem.

And whenever it stopped, he would say, “Return, O Lord, to the countless thousands of Israel!”

The Lord will judge his people and have compassion on his servants when he sees that their strength is gone and that no one is left, neither slaves nor free people.
