When the Lord heard this, he became furious. His fire burned against Jacob and his anger flared up at Israel

the anger of God flared up against them. He killed their strongest men and slaughtered the best young men in Israel.

But they rebelled and offended his Holy Spirit. So he turned against them as their enemy; he fought against them.

Moses heard people from every family crying at the entrance to their tents. The Lord became very angry, and Moses didn’t like it either.

These things happened to make them an example for others. These things were written down as a warning for us who are living in the closing days of history.

Yet, God was not pleased with most of them, so their dead bodies were scattered over the desert.

My anger has started a fire that will burn to the depths of hell. It will consume the earth and its crops and set the foundations of the mountains on fire.

After all, our God is a destructive fire.

I want to remind you about what you already know: The Lord once saved his people from Egypt. But on another occasion he destroyed those who didn’t believe.
