Even when I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me live to tell the people of this age what your strength has accomplished, to tell about your power to all who will come.

After doing God’s will by serving the people of his time, David died. He was laid to rest with his ancestors, but his body decayed.

(Eli was 98 years old, and his eyesight had failed so that he couldn’t see.)

When the messenger mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell from his chair backwards toward the gate. He broke his neck, and he died. (The man was old and heavy.) He had judged  Israel for 40 years.
