A fool’s mouth is his ruin. His lips are a trap to his soul.

An evil person is trapped by his own sinful talk, but a righteous person escapes from trouble.

Let the heads of those who surround me be covered with their own threats.

“The king said to him, ‘I’ll judge you by what you’ve said, you evil servant! You knew that I was a tough person to get along with. You knew that I take what isn’t mine and harvest grain I haven’t planted.

They answered, “He will destroy those evil people. Then he will lease the vineyard to other workers who will give him his share of the produce when it is ready.”

Everyone who sees you will run from you, saying, ‘Nineveh has been violently destroyed! Who will feel sorry for her?’ Where can I find anyone to comfort you?”

People of Moab, didn’t you laugh at the people of Israel? Were they caught among thieves? Whenever you talk about them you shake your heads in contempt.

Their land will become desolate and something to be hissed at forever. Everyone who will pass by it will be stunned and shake his head.

I have become a disgrace because of all my opponents. I have become someone dreaded by my friends, even by my neighbors. Those who see me on the street run away from me.

All who see me make fun of me. Insults pour from their mouths. They shake their heads and say,

Your ⌞own⌟ mouth condemns you, not I. Your lips testify against you.

Frightened by her torture, they will stand far away and say, ‘How horrible, how horrible it is for that important city, the powerful city Babylon! In one moment judgment has come to it!’

I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of Babylon, my people, so that you do not participate in her sins and suffer from any of her plagues.

⌞because of⌟ the sins from their mouths and the words on their lips. Let them be trapped by their own arrogance because they speak curses and lies.

Righteous people will see ⌞this⌟ and be struck with fear. They will laugh at you and say,

When my enemies retreat, they will stumble and die in your presence.

All the Israelites around them ran away when they heard their screams. They thought the ground would swallow them, too.

Hurl bolts of lightning, and scatter them. Shoot your arrows, and throw them into confusion.
