Will you catch only a fleeting glimpse of wealth before it is gone? It makes wings for itself like an eagle flying into the sky.

You say, “We made a treaty with death and an agreement with the grave. When the overwhelming disaster passes by, it won’t matter to us, because we have taken refuge in our lies, and falsehood is our hiding place.”

This is what the Holy One of Israel says: You have rejected this warning, trusted oppression and deceit, and leaned on them.

The nations are like a drop in a bucket and are considered to be like dust on a scale. The weight of the islands is like fine dust.

All the nations amount to nothing in his presence. He considers them less than nothing and worthless.

You feel safe in your wickedness and say, “No one can see me.” Your wisdom and knowledge have led you astray, so you say to yourself, “I’m the only one, and there’s no one else.”

No one calls for justice, and no one pleads his case truthfully. People trust pointless arguments and speak lies. They conceive trouble and give birth to evil.

I, the Lord, love justice. I hate robbery and wrongdoing. I will faithfully reward my people’s work. I will make an everlasting promise  to them.

This is your fate, the destiny I have planned for you,” declares the Lord. “You have forgotten me and trusted false gods.

A person who gets rich dishonestly is like a partridge that hatches eggs it did not lay. During his lifetime, he will lose his wealth. In the end, he will be a godless fool.”

Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it will be for rich people to enter God’s kingdom!”

Certainly, the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Some people who have set their hearts on getting rich have wandered away from the Christian faith and have caused themselves a lot of grief.

Tell those who have the riches of this world not to be arrogant and not to place their confidence in anything as uncertain as riches. Instead, they should place their confidence in God who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.
