O Lord, by your favor you have made my mountain stand firm. When you hid your face, I was terrified.

You hide your face, and they are terrified. You take away their breath, and they die and return to dust.

Answer me quickly, O Lord. My spirit is worn out. Do not hide your face from me, or I will be like those who go into the pit.

because you are the glory of their strength. By your favor you give us victory.

He pulled me out of a horrible pit, out of the mud and clay. He set my feet on a rock and made my steps secure.

His anger lasts only a moment. His favor lasts a lifetime. Weeping may last for the night, but there is a song of joy in the morning.

You bless righteous people, O Lord. Like a large shield, you surround them with your favor.

You gave me life and mercy. Your watchfulness has preserved my spirit.

On that day I will become angry with them. I will abandon them and turn away from them. They will be destroyed, and many terrible disasters will happen to them. On that day they will ask, ‘Haven’t these disasters happened to us because our God isn’t with us?’

Now my bitter experience turns into peace. You have saved me and kept me from the rotting pit. You have thrown all my sins behind you.

because of your hostility and anger, because you have picked me up and thrown me away.

It was not with their swords that they took possession of the land. They did not gain victory with their own strength. It was your right hand, your arm, and the light of your presence ⌞that did it⌟, because you were pleased with them.

Why are you so distant, Lord? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?
