Do not be so far away from me. Trouble is near, and there is no one to help.

The Lord did this because he saw how bitterly everyone in Israel was suffering. No slave or free person could help Israel.

Why are you so distant, Lord? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?

You have seen it, O Lord. Do not remain silent. O Lord, do not be so far away from me.

Do not abandon me, O Lord. O my God, do not be so distant from me.

Come close, and defend my soul. Set me free because of my enemies.

O God, do not be so distant from me. O my God, come quickly to help me.

I depended on you before I was born. You took me from my mother’s womb. My songs of praise constantly speak about you.

He will rescue the needy person who cries for help and the oppressed person who has no one’s help.

I looked, but there was no help. I was astounded that there was no ⌞outside⌟ support. So with my own power I won a victory. My anger supported me.

All of this has happened so that what the prophets have written would come true.” Then all the disciples abandoned him and ran away.

Again Peter denied it and swore with an oath, “I don’t know the man!”

The time is coming, and is already here, when all of you will be scattered. Each of you will go your own way and leave me all alone. Yet, I’m not all alone, because the Father is with me.

The Lord will judge his people and have compassion on his servants when he sees that their strength is gone and that no one is left, neither slaves nor free people.

During his life on earth, Jesus prayed to God, who could save him from death. He prayed and pleaded with loud crying and tears, and he was heard because of his devotion to God.
