When they breathe their last breath, they return to the ground. On that day their plans come to an end.

Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the earth  and blew the breath of life into his nostrils. The man became a living being.

By the sweat of your brow, you will produce food to eat until you return to the ground, because you were taken from it. You are dust, and you will return to dust.”

I’m about to send a flood on the earth to destroy all people under the sky—every living, breathing human. Everything on earth will die.

But a human dies and is powerless. A person breathes his last breath, and where is he?

His sons are honored, and he doesn’t know it. Or they become unimportant, and he doesn’t realize it.

“My spirit is broken. My days have been snuffed out. The cemetery ⌞is waiting⌟ for me.

My days are passing by. My plans are broken. My dreams ⌞are shattered⌟.

‘As long as there is one breath ⌞left⌟ in me and God’s breath fills my nostrils,

You hide your face, and they are terrified. You take away their breath, and they die and return to dust.

The Lord blocks the plans of the nations. He frustrates the schemes of the people of the world.

You turn mortals back into dust and say, “Return, descendants of Adam.”

Then the dust ⌞of mortals⌟ goes back to the ground as it was before, and the breath of life goes back to God who gave it.

Their love, their hate, and their passions have already vanished. They will never again take part in anything that happens under the sun.

Stop trusting people. Their life is in their nostrils. How can they be worth anything?

The person the Lord anointed ⌞as king⌟, who is the breath of our life, was caught in their pits. We had thought that we would live in our king’s shadow among the nations.”

But you made yourself greater than the Lord of heaven. You had the utensils from his temple brought to you. You, your nobles, wives, and concubines drank wine from them. You praised your gods made of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood, or stone. These gods can’t see, hear, or know anything. You didn’t honor God, who has power over your life and everything you do.

However, we do use wisdom to speak to those who are mature. It is a wisdom that doesn’t belong to this world or to the rulers of this world who are in power today and gone tomorrow.
