Then his wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him, “Have a pole set up, 75 feet high, and in the morning ask the king to have Mordecai’s ⌞dead body⌟ hung on it. Then go with the king to the dinner in good spirits.” Haman liked the idea, so he had the pole set up.

So servants hung Haman’s ⌞dead body⌟ on the very pole he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king got over his raging anger.

They will trip over their own tongues. Everyone who sees them will shake his head.

His mischief lands back on his own head. His violence comes down on top of him.

He has turned their own wickedness against them. He will destroy them because of their sins. The Lord our God will destroy them.

The mouth of a righteous person is a fountain of life, but the mouths of wicked people conceal violence.

Blessings cover the head of a righteous person, but violence covers the mouths of wicked people.

An evil person is trapped by his own sinful talk, but a righteous person escapes from trouble.

A fool’s mouth is his ruin. His lips are a trap to his soul.

All the people answered, “The responsibility for killing him will rest on us and our children.”

But I didn’t want their enemies to make me angry. I didn’t want their opponents to misunderstand and say, ‘We won this victory! It wasn’t the Lord who did all this!’ ”
