When I was in trouble, I cried out to the Lord, and he answered me.

I look up toward the mountains. Where can I find help?

I was glad when they said to me, “Let’s go to the house of the Lord.”

Whenever the Israelites went to war, the power of the Lord brought disaster on them. This was what the Lord said he would do in an oath. So he made them suffer a great deal.

The Lord became angry with the people of Israel. He used King Cushan Rishathaim of Aram Naharaim to defeat them. So Israel served Cushan Rishathaim for eight years.

No blacksmith could be found in the entire land of Israel. In this way the Philistines kept the Hebrews from making swords and spears.
