He will turn his attention to the prayers of those who have been abandoned. He will not despise their prayers.

Lord, please pay attention to my prayer and to the prayers of all your other servants who want to worship your name. Please give me success today and make this man, King Artaxerxes, show me compassion.” I was cupbearer  to the king at this time.

Open your eyes, and pay close attention with your ears to what I, your servant, am praying. I am praying to you day and night about your servants the Israelites. I confess the sins that we Israelites have committed against you as well as the sins that my father’s family and I have committed.

“The God of heaven will give us success,” I answered them. “We, his servants, are going to rebuild. You have no property or claim or historic right in Jerusalem.”

The Lord is the builder of Jerusalem. He is the one who gathers the outcasts of Israel together.

The Lord has not despised or been disgusted with the plight of the oppressed one. He has not hidden his face from that person. The Lord heard when that oppressed person cried out to him for help.

Let their vision become clouded so that they cannot see. Let their thighs continually shake.

He will rescue the needy person who cries for help and the oppressed person who has no one’s help.

Needy people will not always be forgotten. Nor will the hope of oppressed people be lost forever.

Then the Lord’s glory will be revealed and all people will see it together. The Lord has spoken.”

He confirms the word of his servant and fulfills the plan of his messengers. He says about Jerusalem, “It will be inhabited.” He says about the cities of Judah, “They will be rebuilt.” He says about their ruins, “I will restore them.”

“The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when the city will be rebuilt for me from the Tower of Hananel to Corner Gate.

The Lord will judge his people and have compassion on his servants when he sees that their strength is gone and that no one is left, neither slaves nor free people.

But if you look for the Lord your God when you are among those nations, you will find him whenever you search for him with all your heart and with all your soul.
