God's Word

He lies in his hiding place like a lion in his den. He hides there to catch oppressed people. He catches oppressed people when he draws them into his net.

because he stands beside needy people to save them from those who would condemn them to death.

“Because oppressed people are robbed and needy people groan, I will now arise,” says the Lord. “I will provide safety for those who long for it.”

Arrogant people have laid a trap for me. They have spread out a net with ropes. They have set traps for me along the road. Selah

Each one of them is like a lion eager to tear ⌞its prey⌟ apart and like a young lion crouching in hiding places.

All my bones will say, “O Lord, who can compare with you? You rescue the weak person from the one who is too strong for him and weak and needy people from the one who robs them.”

Wicked people pull out their swords and bend their bows to kill oppressed and needy people, to slaughter those who are decent.

They lie in ambush for me right here! Fierce men attack me, O Lord, but not because of any disobedience,

Whoever oppresses the poor insults his maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors him.

Oppressing the poor for profit ⌞or⌟ giving to the rich certainly leads to poverty.

⌞Like⌟ a roaring lion and a charging bear, ⌞so⌟ a wicked ruler is a threat to poor people.

The Almighty Lord of Armies asks, “How can you crush my people and grind the faces of the poor ⌞into the ground⌟?”

The tricks of scoundrels are evil. They devise wicked plans in order to ruin poor people with lies, even when needy people plead for justice.

“Wicked people are found among my people. They lie in ambush like bird catchers. They set traps and catch people.

He is like a bear waiting to ambush me, like a lion in hiding.

The common people oppress and rob others. They do wrong to humble people and to poor people. They oppress foreigners for no reason.

Does a lion roar in the forest if it has no prey? Does a young lion growl in its den unless it has caught something?

Faithful people are gone from the earth, and no one is decent. All people lie in ambush to commit murder. They trap each other with nets.

The Babylonians pull them all up with fishhooks, drag them away in nets, and gather them in dragnets. So they rejoice and are happy.

You pierce the leader of his gang with his own arrows. His soldiers come like a violent storm to scatter me. They are arrogant like those who secretly eat up the poor.

Listen! The shepherds are crying, because their rich pastures are destroyed. Listen! The young lions are roaring, because the lush banks of the Jordan are destroyed.

A hired hand isn’t a shepherd and doesn’t own the sheep. When he sees a wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and quickly runs away. So the wolf drags the sheep away and scatters the flock.

Don’t let them persuade you to do this. More than forty of them are planning to ambush him. They have asked God to curse them if they eat or drink anything before they have murdered him. They are ready now and are expecting you to promise ⌞that you will bring Paul⌟.”
