O Lord, you laugh at them. You make fun of all the nations.

They encourage one another in their evil plans. They talk about setting traps and say, “Who can see them?”

They search for the perfect crime and say, “We have perfected a foolproof scheme!” Human nature and the human heart are a mystery!

Then wicked people ask, “What does God know?” “Does the Most High know anything?”

They say, “The Lord doesn’t see it. The God of Jacob doesn’t even pay attention to it.”

When a sentence against a crime isn’t carried out quickly, people are encouraged to commit crimes.

God asked me, “Son of man, do you see what the leaders of the nation of Israel are doing in secret? Each of them is in the room where his god is, and each one of them is thinking, ‘The Lord doesn’t see me. The Lord has abandoned this land.’ ”

He answered me, “The wickedness of the nations of Israel and Judah is terrible. The land is filled with murder, and the city is filled with wrongdoing. They think that the Lord has abandoned the land and that he doesn’t see.

They don’t realize that I remember all the evil things they’ve done. Now their sins surround them. Their sins are in my presence.

The Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this and thought, “If this man really were a prophet, he would know what sort of woman is touching him. She’s a sinner.”
