That night they gave their father wine to drink. Then the older one went to bed with her father. He didn’t know when she came to bed or when she got up.

His eyes are darker than wine. His teeth are whiter than milk.

David summoned him, ate and drank with him, and got him drunk. But that evening Uriah went to lie down on his bed among his superior’s mercenaries. He didn’t go home.

Then Absalom gave an order to his servants. “Watch now,” he said. “When Amnon begins to feel good from drinking ⌞too much⌟ wine, I’ll tell you, ‘Attack Amnon.’ Then kill him. Don’t be afraid. I’ve given you the order, haven’t I? Be strong and courageous.”

Wine ⌞makes people⌟ mock, liquor ⌞makes them⌟ noisy, and everyone under their influence is unwise.

Do not associate with those who drink too much wine, with those who eat too much meat,

because both a drunk and a glutton will become poor. Drowsiness will dress a person in rags.

How horrible it will be for those who get up early to look for a drink, who sit up late until they are drunk from wine.

How horrible it will be for those who are heroes at drinking wine, who are champions at mixing drinks,

⌞The people of Nineveh will be⌟ like tangled thorns and like people drunk on their own drink. They will be completely burned up like very dry straw.

Don’t get drunk on wine, which leads to wild living. Instead, be filled with the Spirit
