Whoever has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his good deed.

Poor me! I am like those gathering summer fruit, like those picking grapes. But there aren’t any grapes to eat or any ripened figs that I crave.

“I wish one of you would shut the doors ⌞to my house⌟ so that you could not light fires on my altar for no reason. I’m not pleased with you,” says the Lord of Armies, “and I won’t accept your offerings.

You didn’t choose me, but I chose you. I have appointed you to go, to produce fruit that will last, and to ask the Father in my name to give you whatever you ask for.

You give glory to my Father when you produce a lot of fruit and therefore show that you are my disciples.

When the collection is completed and I have officially turned the money over to the Christians in Jerusalem, I will visit you on my way to Spain.

Again I say that no one should think that I’m a fool. But if you do, then take me for a fool so that I can also brag a little.

So I thought that I should encourage our coworkers to visit you before I do and make arrangements for this gift that you had already promised to give. Then it will be the blessing it was intended to be, and it won’t be something you’re forced to do.

Jesus Christ will fill your lives with everything that God’s approval produces. Your lives will then bring glory and praise to God.

I’m not saying this because I’m in any need. I’ve learned to be content in whatever situation I’m in.

As you know, we never used flattery or schemes to make money. God is our witness!

He must not drink excessively or be a violent person, but he must be gentle. He must not be quarrelsome or love money.

Certainly, the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Some people who have set their hearts on getting rich have wandered away from the Christian faith and have caused themselves a lot of grief.

Because a bishop is a supervisor appointed by God, he must have a good reputation. He must not be a stubborn or irritable person. He must not drink too much or be a violent person. He must not use shameful ways to make money.

Our people should also learn how to set an example by doing good things when urgent needs arise so that they can live productive lives.

God is fair. He won’t forget what you’ve done or the love you’ve shown for him. You helped his holy people, and you continue to help them.

Be shepherds over the flock God has entrusted to you. Watch over it as God does: Don’t do this because you have to, but because you want to. Don’t do it out of greed, but out of a desire to serve.

These false teachers have left the straight path and wandered off to follow the path of Balaam, son of Beor. Balaam loved what his wrongdoing earned him.

In their greed they will use good-sounding arguments to exploit you. The verdict against them from long ago is still in force, and their destruction is not asleep.

How horrible it will be for them! They have followed the path of Cain. They have rushed into Balaam’s error to make a profit. They have rebelled like Korah and destroyed themselves.
