“People from the Negev will take possession of Esau’s mountain. People from the foothills will take possession of Philistia. They will take possession of the lands of Ephraim and Samaria, and ⌞the descendants of⌟ Benjamin will take possession of Gilead.

The king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, Cuthah, Avva, Hamath, and Sepharvaim and settled them in the cities of Samaria in place of the Israelites. They took over Samaria and lived in its cities.

Then the God of Israel led King Pul of Assyria (King Tiglath Pilneser of Assyria) to take Reuben, Gad, and half of the tribe of Manasseh into captivity. He brought them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and the Gozan River. They are still there today.

Then the king sent this reply: To Rehum the commander, Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their group living in Samaria, and to others west of the Euphrates River: I wish you peace and prosperity!

they approached Zerubbabel and the heads of the families. They told them, “We want to help you build because we worship the same God you worship. We have been sacrificing to him  since the time of King Esarhaddon of Assyria, who brought us here.”

When God saves Zion, he will rebuild the cities of Judah. His servants will live there and take possession of it.

This is what the Lord says about the people of Ammon: Doesn’t Israel have any children? Doesn’t it have any heirs? Why, then, has the god Milcom  taken over the inheritance of Gad’s descendants? Why do Milcom’s people live in Gad’s cities?

So this is what the Almighty Lord says: I’m going to use my power against the Philistines, cut off the Cherethites, and destroy the people that are left on the coast.

Then you will live in the land that I gave your ancestors. You will be my people, and I will be your God.

This is what the Lord says: Because Ammon has committed three crimes, and now a fourth crime, I will not change my plans. The Ammonites enlarged their territory by ripping open pregnant women in Gilead.

I will cut off those living in Ashdod and the one who holds the scepter in Ashkelon. I will turn my power against Ekron. The rest of the Philistines will die. The Almighty Lord has said this.

They will capture the few survivors of Edom and all the other nations that were under my authority, declares the Lord, who will do these things.

With your shepherd’s staff, take care of your people, the sheep that belong to you. They live alone in the woods, in fertile pastures. Let them feed in Bashan and Gilead like before.

The roster of families and households for the descendants of Joseph—those from Ephraim—listed the men by name who were at least 20 years old and eligible for military duty.

Their territory included Jazer, all the cities of Gilead, and half of Ammon as far as Aroer, which is by Rabbah.

It also included half of Gilead with Ashtaroth and Edrei, the royal cities of Og in Bashan. They were given to half the families of Machir, son of Manasseh, ⌞for their inheritance⌟.

On the farthest edge of the Negev, on the border of Edom, they gave the tribe of Judah 29 cities with their villages: Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur,

In the foothills they gave Judah 14 cities with their villages: Eshtaol, Zorah, Ashnah,
